Privacy Policy

Bottletale ("we") is an audio companion app for wine. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can delete it. We keep it short on purpose.

What we collect

• Account. If you sign in, your email address or the identifier provided by Apple or Google. You can use the app without an account; an account is only needed to save bottles to your Wine Cabinet or subscribe to a story notification.
• Your Cabinet and listening. The bottles you save, your reactions, and how far you listened to each story, so you can resume across devices.
• Label scans. When you scan a label, the photo is sent to our server to read the text on it. We store the extracted text and the result (found, not found), not the photo. Photos are not kept.
• Wine requests. When a readable scan has no catalogue match, we automatically add its extracted wine details to our editorial list. We also keep requests you type. This helps us decide which stories to record. Notifications require a separate opt-in.
• Device and usage. Pseudonymous usage events (screens opened, stories played, errors) and crash reports, to make the app work better. No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no selling of data.
• Push notifications. Only if you turn them on. A device token that lets us send you a message about a new story. We remember that we offered an update for a wine and year, and whether you subscribed or declined, so we do not ask again for the same bottle. Showing the offer does not subscribe you. Turn notifications off any time in Settings.

What we do not collect

• Your date of birth. We ask you to confirm you are of legal drinking age; we do not store the date.
• Your location.
• Your contacts, photos or files beyond the single label photo you choose to scan.

Where data is stored

Accounts and Cabinet data are stored with Supabase (hosted database). Usage analytics are processed by PostHog and crash reports by Sentry. Label recognition uses a third-party vision model. We do not save scan photos in our database or file storage. Processing by providers is subject to their data policies and the settings of our accounts.

Deleting your data

In the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your account, Cabinet, listening history and push tokens from our active database. We remove the account link from retained scan and request records and queue deletion of identified analytics with our provider; provider deletion is asynchronous. Unlinked editorial requests may remain. You can also write to hello@bottletale.app.

Retention

Scan identifiers and diagnostic model output are removed after 30 days; scan records and listening sessions are removed after 90 days. Completed notification records are kept for 30 days. Requests remain in the editorial list until removed, and subscriptions can be withdrawn in Settings. Encrypted backups may retain earlier data until rotated; after recovery we reapply subsequent deletion requests before reopening the service.

Age

Bottletale is intended for people of legal drinking age in their country. In the UAE that is 21. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Changes

We will update this page when the app changes. The date at the top tells you when.
