Privacy Policy
Pilot version. Last updated 6 September 2026.
Bottletale ("we") is an audio companion app for wine. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can delete it. We keep it short on purpose.
What we collect
- Account. If you sign in, your email address or the identifier provided by Apple or Google. You can use the app without an account; an account is only needed to save bottles to your Wine Cabinet.
- Your Cabinet and listening. The bottles you save, your reactions, and how far you listened to each story, so you can resume across devices.
- Label scans. When you scan a label, the photo is sent to our server to read the text on it. We store the extracted text and the result (found, not found), not the photo. Photos are not kept.
- Wine requests. The text you type when you ask us to add a wine.
- Device and usage. Anonymous usage events (screens opened, stories played, errors) and crash reports, to make the app work better. No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, no selling of data.
- Push notifications. Only if you turn them on. A device token that lets us send you a message about a new story. Turn it off any time in Settings.
What we do not collect
- Your date of birth. We ask you to confirm you are of legal drinking age; we do not store the date.
- Your location.
- Your contacts, photos or files beyond the single label photo you choose to scan.
Where data is stored
Accounts and Cabinet data are stored with Supabase (hosted database). Anonymous usage analytics are processed by PostHog and crash reports by Sentry. Label recognition uses a third-party vision model that receives the label image only for the duration of the request. None of these providers may use your data for their own purposes.
Deleting your data
In the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your account, Cabinet, listening history and push tokens immediately. Wine requests and anonymous listening statistics are kept without any link to you. You can also write to hello@bottletale.app.
Age
Bottletale is intended for people of legal drinking age in their country. In the UAE that is 21. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes
We will update this page when the app changes. The date at the top tells you when.
